Prior to joining Preti Strategies, Peter served three years as President of the New Hampshire Senate. Under his leadership as Senate President, the New Hampshire Senate successfully eliminated a projected $800 million budget deficit without raising taxes or fees, preserving New Hampshire’s tradition of no sales or income tax.

First elected to the Senate in 2004, Peter also served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and was a member of the Milford School Board for 18 years. Add a successful business career to his extensive record of public service and you start to get the picture.

Peter helped start an Amherst software company that later, under his ownership, successfully grew to a position on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies in America. In the Senate, Peter’s experience in the business and education sectors shaped his policy priorities as he worked to reduce the tax and regulatory burden on small businesses and improve opportunities for New Hampshire’s workforce.

With strong bipartisan relationships throughout the halls of the Granite State’s legislature, clients look to him to work with key legislators, advocacy and trade groups, and other interested parties to develop beneficial coalitions on their behalf. He crafts practical policy solutions, and then uses his familiarity with the process to successfully navigate all the way through implementation.

Most recently, Peter served as Executive Director of HealthTrust, New Hampshire’s largest health insurance risk pool for town, city and school district employees. Peter is part of the fourth generation of an Amherst farm family and a graduate of UMass-Lowell. He currently resides in Concord, New Hampshire.
